Recently, due to some construction at our house, the power company had to disconnect the power to the house for a period of several hours. I was reminded just how dependent we are upon being connected to the power source, and just how helpless we are without that connection. Can’t cook, can’t clean, and can’t stay cool, etc.-etc.-etc. Why, because we are not connected! If you haven’t had this experience perhaps you have tried to use some power tool or turn on some appliance only to your dismay, find that nothing happened. After fiddling around and flipping switches or pulling the trigger a number of times, it dawns upon you to check and see if you are plugged into the power source, or, to check the breakers and make sure that the connection has not been broken. Sadly, many lives are like the disconnected house, tool or appliance. A short verse found in Rom. 1:16 is intriguing when looked at in a thoughtful way and studied carefully. The verse reads as follows; “I am not ashamed of the gospel because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes.” N.I.V. In this verse the gospel is called “the power” while the word in the original language is the word “dunamis.” It is from the root of this word that we get several more words that we hear and use quite often. For instance, the words dynamo, dynamite, dynamic and of course our word power all of which indicate force, movement and explosiveness. The writer says that the gospel is the force, the movement, the explosiveness and the dynamo or source of power to which we must be connected if we desire salvation. You will notice however that it is “of everyone who believes”. I will be as bold as to state here, which entails more than just saying, “I believe”. The gospel is the story of the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus, for our sins. 1 Cor. 15:1-4 Some of the things we enjoy by being connected is the victory over sin, its’ penalty, guilt, and power in our lives. See Rom. 6:1-14 Unless we are connected to the power source we will surely miss out on these beneficial blessings. By being connected to this source of power we are set free from our fear of death itself for we know that though this body will die, we shall live eternally with God. John 11:25&26 “For Christ has completely abolished death, and has now, opened to us men the shining possibilities of the life that is eternal.” I Tim. 1:10 P.M.E.
Notice ; “It is the power of God for salvation”. The logical conclusion to be reached is that if we are not connected to that power there will be no salvation for us!!! This should prompt us to make sure that we are connected and are not wandering aimlessly through this life. A life with no connection to the power of God is infinitely more lonely, deserted and barren than the earthly house that is disconnected from its’ power source. How does your connection stand Today!!!!!!!!!! Think about it!
