The answer to this question is of the greatest importance to
every person on this planet and to every one that has ever been or will be.
Either he is exactly what he claimed
to be or he is nothing. The apostle Paul speaks of those who "preach another
gospel" which in reality is a perversion of the gospel of Christ. He further
states that such a perverted gospel is contrary or different from the real
gospel. Gal. 1:6-9
The real gospel according to Paul
in I Cor. 15:1-4 is the story of Jesus and especially that concerning His
death, burial and resurrection for our sins. Any differences in the teaching
of that story from the scriptural story makes that gospel a "perverted
gospel". Any teaching that makes Jesus anything less than what the
scriptures present Him to be makes Him a false Jesus. With that in mind we
ask again,
WHO IS JESUS?
Jesus is the one and the only one who could ransom men
who are held captive by sin and death. (Rev. 5:9) When we look at the
word "ransom", we immediately think of the price demanded by kidnappers to
free a loved one from their clutches. He gave his life as a ransom for many
(Mt. 10:4). He redeemed us from the curse of the law. (Gal.3:13) We could
not be ransomed with material things such as silver or gold.
It took the blood of
Jesus. (I Pet. 1:18-19) Paul in speaking to Christians at Corinth says, "you
were bought with a price". (I Cor. 6:20) Who is Jesus that He could
accomplish this mind boggling feat? The answer is even more mind boggling.
HE IS GOD!
This simple fact is
stated a number of times in scripture. Unfortunately there are a number of
people out there teaching a "different gospel" as pertains to His deity.
John tells us, "In
the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was
God". (Jn. 1:14) Then we find, "And the Word became flesh and dwelt among
us". Please note that whatever or whomever dwelt among us was GOD! In the
eighth chapter of John, we find Jesus three times referring to himself as
GOD.
In verse 24, He
refers to himself as "I AM". The word "he" that
follows there is a word supplied by the translators. The same holds true for
verse number 28 where He again refers to himself as "I
AM". In verse 58 again we find Jesus telling the Jews He is
"I AM"
In light of this I
urge you to come to know him as the true and living God and the one and only
Savior of this cursed planet.
