Old Tishomingo Genealogy Fair

The Alcorn County Genealogical Society (ACGS) is on the bottom floor, SE corner of the Alcorn County Courthouse. This is where we will meet on Friday afternoon for the Bus Tour.

The red circle on the map is the Alcorn County Court House which is on Waldron Street and down the block is the Waldron Street Christian Church (806 East Waldron Street) where the activities will be held on Saturday.

Friday Bus Tour Saturday Lodging Registration

FRIDAY, August 18, 2017

Friday's Activities start at 1:00. We will begin with our Bus Tour. This tour will take you through historic downtown Corinth, with a few stops along the way. We'll visit the Verandah Curlee House, the Interpretive Center, City Cemetery, Borroum's Drug Store and more.

The Bus Tour is at 1:00 pm on Friday, August 18. We will meet at the Alcorn Genealogical Society (ACGS) Library at the Courthouse. Please see map above for directions. If you come in the Southeast Entrance door, ACGS is the first door on the left as you step inside. We will assemble here before boarding the bus. The bus is really not pink.

The bus will stop at the Coliseum Civic Center at 4:00 pm to hear some information about various aspects of Corinth and Alcorn County from Rosemary Williams, Clayton Stanley, and a Park Service Represenative. We will be dismissed at 5:00 pm. For those who wish, we will have a Dutch treat dinner at Pizza Grocery nearby to continue getting acquainted with everyone.

SATURDAY, August 19, 2017 Door Prizes hourly!

Registration will begin at 8:30 am at the Waldron Street Christian Church, with the program beginning at 9:00 am. We will have several speakers on Saturday beginning with Chris Ozbirn, from Russellville, AL. She will be discussing and demonstrating grave dousing. Joyce Dixon-Lawson from the Mississippi Department of Archives and History (MDAH) in Jackson, MS will be discussing genealogy research with an emphasis on African American research.

During our lunch break, the Tippah County Dulcimer Guild from Tippah County, MS will be entertaining us. We have several downtown restaurants, but if you prefer to eat at the church, we will be offering Subway box lunches and chicken box lunches. You will need to pre-register if you want a box lunch.

There will also be vendor tables set up and representatives from the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Sons of the American Revolution, Alcorn County Black History Museum, the United Daughters of the Confederacy, the Sons of Confederate Veterans, Colonial Dames, Prentiss County Genealogical Society, possibly Tippah County Historical & Genealogical Society, and Alcorn County Genealogical Society to share information about their groups.
